173 pieces: six more from Gurlitt’s First Lessons

Six newly engraved pieces from Cornelius Gurlitt’s First Lessons, Op. 117, have arrived, among them “The Chase”, “The Little Rogue” and “Even-Song”. All are optional pieces on levels 2 to 5.

Klavissimo now has 173 built-in pieces. The six new ones all come from Cornelius Gurlitt’s First Lessons, Op. 117, a set of short pieces for the first years at the piano. They are engraved from the G. Schirmer print, New York 1895.

The six pieces

“The Chase” (No. 15) is on level 2: three-four time, an upbeat, crotchets and long held dyads in the left hand. Level 3 has First Lesson No. 6, “The Good Child” (No. 19) and “Even-Song” (No. 20). In “The Good Child” the left hand moves into the treble clef for the second half; in “Even-Song” it plays two voices in places.

First Lesson No. 11 is on level 4 because of its short groups of semiquavers. “The Little Rogue” (No. 18) is on level 5: more than half of its notes are semiquavers.

Levels and tempo

All six are optional; you don’t need any of them to complete a level. Gurlitt’s print gives only tempo words such as “Allegro” or “Andantino”, no metronome marks, so the tempo in Klavissimo is a suggestion. Set your own with the tempo slider.
