For a piece of your own or an imported one, the practice excerpt lets you narrow down exactly what you're practising — bars, hand and tempo. Built-in exercises don't have this excerpt; there, you always practise the whole exercise.
Opening the practice excerpt
"Adjust ▾" above the player expands the practice excerpt — collapsed, the bar just shows a summary such as "Whole piece · ♩ = 90", or, once an excerpt is active, a chip row with "Bars a–b".
That's how an active excerpt looks — bars, hand and tempo as chips; “Adjust ▾” opens the full controls.
Narrowing down the bars
Expanded, the field reads "Bar a to b", with "of n" alongside showing the piece's total bar count. "End excerpt ✕" resets you straight back to the whole piece.
Choosing a hand
"Both hands", "Right" or "Left" narrows things down to one hand as well — "Play other hand quietly" has Klavissimo play the hand you're not practising quietly alongside, without scoring it.
Tempo within the excerpt
The "♩ =" field changes the tempo only for this excerpt (20–300), with "Original: …" staying alongside as a reminder of the piece's original tempo.
Following your tutor's suggestions
When your tutor suggests a spot, a button like "▶ Practise bars a–b · ♩=z" appears — one click loads bars, hand and tempo straight into the practice excerpt, marked with the "Your tutor's suggestion" pill.
Good to know:
While an excerpt is active, scoring applies only to it too: Klavissimo compares just the bars in the chosen range, and the result shows a "Practised: bars … · … · ♩=…" line at the top to match.
