"Note by note" is the mode with no clock — the exercise waits until you're actually ready.
Waits for your key
The cursor stays put at the current spot until you've actually pressed the required key(s) — there's no metronome beat pushing you along. Your own tempo decides how fast it moves on.
Klavissimo waits until YOU play the key.
Accompaniment in lockstep
If another voice plays along — the other hand in a one-hand exercise, or an ensemble voice such as violin or cello — it waits for your next step too: it moves in lockstep with you, not at its own free tempo.
Hand colours on the keyboard
On the on-screen keyboard, your target keys light up in colour — gold for the right or single hand, a second colour for the left hand. Notes the app plays automatically as accompaniment get their own, third colour, so you can tell at a glance what you're playing yourself and what Klavissimo takes over.
Wrong key? Just try again
Press the wrong key and nothing bad happens — the step simply stays where it is, and you try again. Only the right key(s) move you on to the next spot.
End the run or play it again
During the run, "Stop" ends the recording and shows the summary in the same place. "Again" starts from the beginning and "Done" leaves the summary. "Cancel" instead discards the current attempt and returns to the ready player without a result.
Good to know:
After repeated wrong tries at the same spot, Klavissimo helps out more and more — up to the right key lighting up. How fast that happens is set in the player ⚙ under "Hints" (gentle/medium/strict); in strict mode, the key never lights up on its own.
