Klavissimo listens to the sustain pedal live — from the indicator while you practise to the scoring in your result. Here's how that works in detail.
The "Pedal" indicator while practising
At the bottom of the player, a small dot next to the word "Pedal" lights up gold whenever the score calls for the pedal to be down. For exercises with no pedal markings, the indicator doesn't appear at all.
How the pedal is scored
In your result, every pedal span gets a verdict: "good", "late", "released too early", "held too long", "missed" or "unexpected" (pressed where none was called for). Alongside that, a coverage percentage and a short summary such as "Pedal well timed." or "Pedal held too long — release it in time."
"Score pedal strictly" in the player ⚙
In the player ⚙ under "Practice settings", "Score pedal strictly" adds finer timing plus scoring for unexpected pedal presses. The two mode presets set it automatically — off in Play mode, on in Learn mode — but you can override it individually any time. Under /einstellungen → Instrument, the "Pedal" row shows at a glance whether strict mode is currently on or off; you change it in the player ⚙.
The “Play” preset sets several controls at once — “Learn” turns the same controls stricter.
Half-pedalling — only with a continuous pedal
Klavissimo only detects half-pedalling if your pedal actually sends in-between values (continuous) — a simple switch only knows 0 and 127 and can't produce half-pedalling. On /midi-test, the pedal card shows which type you have — "✓ continuous" or "Switch (0/127)" — plus, for continuous pedals, the note "Half-pedalling is possible with your pedal."
Getting started: the exercise "p01"
"Pedal: connected chords" (p01) is the first of five exercises in the "The pedal" module — short chords where the pedal is held for a whole bar each time. A good first test of your own pedal technique.
Good to know:
The pedal indicator and pedal scoring only appear for exercises and pieces that actually contain pedal markings — for everything else, the pedal simply stays out of the picture.
