The placement test is a handful of short tasks — about 8 minutes — during which Klavissimo adapts to your playing. It checks four axes: note reading, rhythm, technique and sight-reading. Mistakes are part of it, and never a big deal.
Play task after task
You play short phrases on your piano or the on-screen keyboard — the count-in counts you in, and the next task adapts to your result: easier after mistakes, harder after a clean round.
Skipping is fine
"Skip task" counts as a missed attempt for that axis — no drama, the placement test simply continues.
Cancel any time
"Cancel — progress stays" lets you leave the placement test at any point without losing anything: your progress so far is kept.
Afterwards: the left hand
Afterwards you can have your left hand checked: up to three short tasks in the bass clef. The result sets where you start in the modules that use your left hand; it does not change the four axes. You also get this offer if you end the placement test early with "View my profile". After "Cancel — progress stays" it is left out.
If you passed at least the first left-hand task and a digital piano is connected via MIDI, you can then play up to three short tasks for both hands: melody in the right hand, accompaniment in the left. A task only counts as passed if each hand manages on its own. The result sets where you start in the modules that use both hands. Without a MIDI device this part is left out, because the computer keyboard and the mouse cannot stand in for two hands.
Good to know:
The result is deliberately conservative — when in doubt, Klavissimo places you a level lower, never higher, than what you actually demonstrated. And the placement test is repeatable any time: from then on your most recent result counts, and your daily plan adapts right away.
Two ways in: the test, or choosing your level
The test stays the recommended main path — it gives the more accurate recommendation. Already know your level (coming back to the piano, a teacher, or demoing)? Below the test you'll find "Choose your level yourself": tap "The basics" or a level 1–10, confirm with "Use this level" — done, a full profile exists, and /heute shows a daily plan right away. Either way stays swappable: take the test later and its result replaces the level you chose yourself.
Below "Show assessment", "Show results per part" opens up: for each part the level you reached and every task you played, marked "passed" or "not passed", with accuracy and timing. The value that held you back carries "(needs 80)" or "(needs 70)". Parts you didn't get to after cancelling show "not played". These results only appear right after the run; only the profile is saved.
What comes next
At the end you choose between three ways: "Go to Practice" opens the Practice page with your module, next to it are the daily plan and the repertoire. If the placement result is "The basics", Klavissimo recommends "First steps" first; "Go to Practice" then sits alongside.
